I Can Help (:30)

MUSIC: (UNDER THROUGHOUT)

AVO: People do it every day.

SALLY: I can play. (SFX: GUITAR CHORD)

ED: I can coach. (SFX: BASKETBALL GYM)

MARY: I can listen.

AVO: They do the simple, everyday things that can do the most to keep a kid off drugs. It's a fact: kids who have something to do are less likely to do drugs. So if you can spare an hour or two--

12 YEAR OLD: You can keep a kid off drugs.

Night Swim (:30)

SFX: (UNDER THROUGHOUT) A busy indoor pool-whoops of joy, happy children, splashing, the spring of the diving board, the whistle of the lifeguard, the full spectrum of a big, boisterous swim.

AVO: What do belly flops and jackknifes off the diving board have to do with keeping kids off drugs

KID: Look out below!!!!!

SFX: GIANT SPLASH.

AVO: Everything. That's why the Troy Community Coalition volunteered to supervise Friday night swims at the town pool. Because kids who have something to do are less likely to do drugs. And when you give a little of your time-

SAME KID: You can keep a kid off drugs.

Campfire (:60)

SFX: A crackling campfire, hooting owl, general outdoor sounds, occasional giggling girls.

KELLIE: so there they were, in the middle of the night, in the dark and creepy old house…

AVO: When storyteller Kelly Martin and the Florida Family Partnership sponsor an overnight hike for 6h grade girls, there's one goal:

KELLIE: (quietly)…it was the old man's (YELLS QUICKLY) GHOST!!!!!!!!!!

SFX: The girls scream and squeal in fear and delight.

AVO: She scares them. Just for fun of it. Because kids who have something to do are less likely to do drugs. And whether you're a good storyteller or a good listener, a little of your time can make a lifetime of difference to a kid. So if you can spare an hour or two, there's probably already a drug prevention program that you can join. You don't need special skills…

11 year old girl: You can just have fun!

THE GIRLS: Yeah!!!!!!!

AVO: And when you give a little of your time-
